Come to class! Feel the magic!

Dear Yogis,

I absolutely love the way yogis here support each other, give advice and contacts to each other, and, at the very very least, become firm friends for just that hour each week. I have always thought of my home studio as a very lucky place.

This mid-week email is because the eclipse is tonight. Come if you have no other plans to watch. Birds will all go to sleep and, minutes later, start their dawn chorus. Then, in the early morning hours between midnight and dawn, is the meteor shower. In case we spot a shooting star, come with your wishes ready.

You’ll have to bring a jumper. Perhaps tonight is not the night for shorts. The temperature will drop. The eclipse starts at 18.18, reaches its maximum at around 19:12 before ending at about 20:06. Never mind the complete shortage of eclipse glasses. The sun is already way over east and we don’t need to look at it. We can feel the effect of the middle-of-the-day-night-time and the dawning evening. It will be magic.

Classes

Classes for the rest of the week… Come and bust out some moves in Ashtanga on Friday and Saturday. I’m afraid I’ll be away for the next two Sundays. After that, book Sunday mornings for Ashtanga with extra press-up.

By the way, my business bank account details are different now so if you are using the Metro one, please let me know and I will send you the new details.

Mon, Tues & Wed evenings = Stretchy yoga at 7.00-8.00pm – this is the popular one with a bit of Yin.

Friday morning = Ashtanga at 8.30-9.30am – this is the more ‘dynamic’ one.

Friday evening = Yin and Restorative Yoga – 6.30-8.00pm – A proper unwind – fortnightly.

Saturday morning = Ashtanga at 8.30 – 10.00am – this is the longer ‘dynamic’ one.

Sunday morning = Yoga-For-Strength at 8.30 – 10.00am – this is Ashtanga with push-ups and weights.

Yoga and Eclipse

On LBC @ 12.23, 12 August 2026: Caller Sebastian, Events officer at the UCL Space Society, said: ‘Solar eclipses are not going to be around much longer. The sun is around 400x further away than the moon is to the earth, and the moon is 400x smaller such that they match each other up perfectly to the point that they cover each other. And that occurrence does not happen on any other planet in the solar system. Not one. There are planets out there with 60+ moons and they do not have that same ratio/coincidence.

‘This is not going to happen much longer. Because of the gravitational forces between the earth and the moon they are slowly drifting apart from one another, a few inches every year such that the moon will no longer cover the sun...’
