This blog gives a view of yoga from a student’s point of view. That’s me! I have been teaching since 2012 but always a student. I love being part of the yoga world and continually learning. I write about the top teachers, the yoga shows and festivals, the studios and workshops, and the promise of yoga’s self discovery. In this blog I include retreat information, workshop recommendations and Yoga In The News.

Read MoreThis week, I started reading Rod Stryker’s The Four Desires, his book about ‘mental prosperity’ and ‘the yoga of fulfilment’. Y’know, I always found these huge promises of yoga quite unobtainable. Fulfillment? My best life? Really? Yoga isn’t huge; For most people it’s the subtle change that happens while you’re doing other things like posture practice. However, in the first few pages I knew I could trust Mr Stryker’s book which, by the way, is a workshop book and has tasks for the reader.

It may be the realisation that comes with the commute detox. It might have been the insight that comes with being with family, kids or elders, and hearing the birds reclaim their morning chorus.
Read MoreHappy Easter! The traditional story of death and resurrection is taking on a metaphorical meaning for our culture and society, eh! Many people contemplate the rebirth that’s coming. Will we keep some of the gains of lock-down? For example, did you hear the loud and proud dawn chorus? Some of us are dealing with tough times. Some of us are bored. Some of us are really quite pleased with the lock-down. Does yoga help?
Read MoreWell, now that you’re locked down, under house arrest, what about starting or improving your meditation practice! I know... the reluctance. Once you get going, though, you’ll add it to your yoga practice and it will become all-of-a-piece.
The yoga we practice was born in ancient times and was pretty much only concerned with meditation.

Are you finally eating the forgotten things in the freezer? And are you enjoying yoga online more than you could have ever imagined? There’s no travelling, no tackling transport, no rushing to class and rushing home. New problems to do with camera angles, audio, and cats and dogs joining the class have taken us into a whole new world of yoga practice.

So here are some details. Download Zoom here - it's free. So far, all the evening classes have had 20 or more and my best friend in Paris has joined us. I love it!

In any case, yoga is ultimately supposed to become a more reclusive activity. And anything that gets you to roll out a mat at home is good. So, while you’re Namastaying at home I’ll be Namastreaming from my Home Studio.
Read MoreWhaddaya know! It’s Friday the 13th. Make it lucky! Week after week I ask gym-going yogis to use their own yoga mat. Week after week people don’t! Now that we have the ‘worst health crisis for a generation’, says the PM, and ‘many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time’, please use your own mat! I don’t want to lose my loved ones. This borough, Ealing, has five confirmed cases of Coronavirus sufferers. They will have infected others. Who knows if they were on that mat before you!

Lent began this week (and ends 9th April) and, along with the beginning of Spring, this feels like a better time to make New Year Resolutions than after Christmas chaos. This is a natural time of renewal after the darkness of winter. Yoga, and many eastern philosophies, reminds us that we belong to the natural cycle of birth and death and, crucially, rebirth.

Yoga to enjoy! Good Times Yoga!
I always read your emails and am uplifted, this one I had to recognise as very special.
“So enjoyed Tuesday’s stretchy session – such a good way to end the day – thank you 😊”
“Yoga is so misunderstood and you gave me the insight to interpret myself and give me more self understanding. Some might say ‘peace'“.
“I love your Friday email, it is really uplifting!”
“I look forward to reading your email, always a font of knowledge and food for thought. Just wanted to thank you for the thought you put into our classes and Friday newsletter.”
“Just read your email and, as usual, it’s lifted my spirits as well as acted as a reminder to take care of myself too. ”
“Thanks again for another enthusiastic practice. You really come over as upbeat and I urge you to keep this up for the sake of all your yogis during these tough times!”
“I love the Ashtanga class and will try to do both this week. It’s odd practicing alone to a screen and not being in a studio with others, but this is just another adjustment to our new lives! Thank you so much for offering these free classes.”
“I really don’t want to miss out on your wonderful sessions. At the moment the internet is acting like it has a whole new obstructive personality disorder and doing just weird stuff.”
“I’m sorry to keep showering you with positive feedback, but ... I particularly enjoyed this week’s email. It’s inspired me to practice a little more yoga this morning. Your Friday emails kickstart my weekends!”
“I’ve been meaning to say for a while that I’m amazed you manage to create such fresh, interesting and varied blogs week after week for years now. Thank you.”
“I can honestly say there have been weeks when your Friday Email has been the only sparkle of light”
“You are truly a yoga poet! Great newsletter, which I’ve just enjoyed over a coffee. Thanks for all the work you put into it and your inspiring language.”
“This is beautiful writing.”
“I still can’t tell you how much I love these emails each week; they are food and thought for the soul.”
